Thus, those under 30 years of age with a job are currently 88,200, a figure that was not so high since the 91,100 that were registered at the end of the third quarter of 2012.

In that six-year period, a 'floor' of 71,200 employed young people was reached at the end of the first quarter of 2013, which represents the lowest figure in the historical series. However, since then there has been a recovery of 17,000 jobs for this group, that is, a 23.87 percent increase.

The current figure for employed persons under 30 years of age is significantly supported by the intense job creation experienced in the second quarter of this year. Thus, between the months of April, May and June, a total of 6,400 jobs have been gained for this group. This is an increase of 7.82 percent of the employed population, which practically doubled the increase in workers in the population as a whole during that quarter (3.98 percent).

Regarding the comparison with the country as a whole, the youth employment generation data in the Region of Murcia is higher than the national average, both in the last quarter (7.82 percent increase in the Region , compared to 4.93 percent in Spain) as in the last twelve months (7.96 percent increase in the Region, above the 5.06 percent increase in Spain).

For the Minister of Employment, Universities, Business and the Environment, Javier Celdrán, “there is still a lot of work to do for young people to achieve optimal levels of employment, but the data reveal a very positive path and a progressive incorporation of this group into the working market. Furthermore, a very relevant fact is that the contracts they sign are of increasingly higher quality.”

In this sense, the number of indefinite contracts for young people from January to August has increased by 28.77 percent compared to the same period last year. Specifically, at this point in 2017, 13,254 permanent contracts had been signed for young people, while this year there are already 17,067.

Furthermore, the unemployment rate of those under 30 years of age in the Region also reflects this positive evolution, and stands at 30.58 percent after the second quarter, 1.09 points below the figure recorded twelve months ago. . Since the first quarter of 2013, the unemployment rate for those under 30 years of age has fallen a total of 18.55 points, since the proportion of unemployed in this group then reached 49.13 percent.

Measures against youth unemployment

The Department of Business, Universities, Business and the Environment, through the SEF, encourages the employment of people from this group, for example, with their participation in different employment programs that allow them to receive remuneration while they train and develop jobs. of social interest.

The Ministry also provides various aid to boost youth employment, such as a subsidy of between 3,000 and 6,000 euros to companies that provide an indefinite contract to unemployed young people under 30 years of age.
