These changes are focused on the implementation of some income brackets based on which the contribution quotas will be established. And at this point, one of the groups that will benefit from the measures to be adopted are those self-employed workers who receive income below the interprofessional minimum wage (SMI), that is, the 1.2 million who obtain annual benefits below of the 12,600 euros.

According to sources close to the negotiation, it seems clear that these workers will see the amount of their monthly contributions to Social Security reduced, although they acknowledge that the applicable contribution level is still being negotiated at the open dialogue table for the reform. However, one of the proposals that UPTA, one of the entities representing self-employment, has already submitted to the cabinet led by José Luis Escrivá and which will be assessed in future meetings is the application of two contribution brackets for these self-employed workers with income Annually below the SMI, 1,235,298 workers according to official data, that is, 37.8% of the total number of self-employed registered in Reta at the end of last February.

Based on the UPTA proposal, a first tranche would be applied to those self-employed workers who obtain benefits in the year below 50% of the SMI for whom a fee of 30% of the current minimum contribution base would be applied, at 288 euros per month. While for the group that is receiving income between 50% of the SMI -6,300 euros- and 12,600 euros, an amount equivalent to 60% of the current minimum contribution base would be applied.

In other words, the self-employed who enter up to the 50% of the SMI would have with this formula a quota of about 90 euros per month, while the second group would pay a maximum of about 170 euros per month.

In this sense, from UPTA they explain that the application of these contributions despite being below the SMI will allow the group to continue linked to the Social Security benefits system, so that even proportionally to their contributions they will be able to benefit from all the planned benefits such as cessation of activity, disability or retirement pension, once retirement has been reached. «The contributions of this group will drop substantially.

Abad explains that this reduction in quotas in exchange for maintaining protection levels is a boost to promote the formal economy and limit activities that remain outside fiscal control, "because many of these workers carry out activities whose income they obtain is insufficient to deal with Social Security payments.

Source: The Economist

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

The Reta reform will reduce the monthly contribution to the lowest incomesAlmost one in four self-employed workers earns less than 12,600 a yearUPTA proposes two contribution brackets for this group of workers Government and associations representing self-employed workers are already working on the negotiation for the reform of the contribution system of […]

[5

post-120474","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-noticias
["GET
