Like every year at this time, Social Security will launch its information campaign on working lives and contribution bases. More than 22.5 million workers, many of them self-employed, will be able to know how much they have contributed and what amount they will have left for their future retirement. Additionally, this year, the cards will include three new features.
Receiving a letter from the Treasury, Labor or Social Security is a cause of concern for many self-employed people. Although the news is not always bad. This is the case of the letter that, over the next few weeks, the more than 22.5 million workers - among them 3.2 million self-employed people - who have been registered in any of the Social Security regimes will receive. at least one day during fiscal years 2017 or 2018.
In it, information will be provided on the taxpayer's working life, their contribution bases, as well as the contributions paid in the case of workers of companies affiliated to the Direct Settlement System.
For the self-employed, knowing their Working Life is especially important, since it details each and every day that they have contributed to the RETA (Special Social Security Regime) and the contribution base for which they have done so. And this is used to calculate how much pension they will receive at the time of retirement.
It must be taken into account that, since the approval of the Law on Urgent Self-Employment Reforms, RETA contributors have the option of registering and deregistering from the system up to three times a year. Many take advantage of this possibility to compensate for the lack of income during times of less activity. Therefore, the Working Life report provides security to self-employed workers with regard to their future - and present - social protection.
More complete reports
With the aim of improving efficiency and providing contributors with increasingly complete information about their bases, contribution groups and other data that are decisive for the calculation of the future pension, as well as to detect possible errors in their financial situation. high, the General Treasury of Social Security has incorporated three new features this year in the report on Working Life and Contribution Bases of workers:
- The complete contribution bases for the years 2017, 2018 and those corresponding to the period January – September (last month available) of 2019 are detailed.
- Regardless of the regime in which contributions have been made, a list of contribution bases for the last 21 years is provided for workers aged 60 or over. This information will be used to calculate your future retirement pension.
- Finally, information is provided regarding the collective agreement or agreements declared by the company and applicable to the worker.
In addition to the usual information - identifying data of the worker and the company, a summary of the total days registered, the current employment situation... - in the case of part-time contracts, the document includes the coefficient applicable to this modality of contracts.
Where the greatest developments occur is in the case of workers who provide their services for companies and businesses assigned to the 'Direct Settlement System'. With this tool, the owner of the business or company does not have to present the self-assessment model, but rather the General Treasury of Social Security itself is in charge of billing. In this case, employees will receive a second Report under the title Information of interest about their contribution in 2018. It will detail:
- The contribution bases for common contingencies, with information on the annual accumulated base and an evolutionary graph of the monthly contribution bases in 2018.
- The report includes the amount of contributions paid to Social Security during 2018, distinguishing the contribution of the company and that of the worker himself.
- In the case of household employers, the employment relationships maintained in 2018 with the assigned Contribution Account Code, the data of the employees hired in 2018, the days of registration and the amount of remuneration.
- Situations of temporary disability and maternity, paternity, risk during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in 2018.
Registrations canceled in 2018 by Authorized RED, if any.
The situation regarding the payment of Social Security contributions in cases in which the worker is responsible for the payment. A point that directly affects the self-employed, who are those who pay their own fees.
ICT and SMS
During the presentation of this year's campaign, last Monday, November 18, Javier Aibar, general director of the General Treasury of Social Security, insisted that “the fundamental objective of these campaigns is to share the large amount of information of the available to the Treasury and bring it closer to both companies and workers, so that it is as useful as possible.” Likewise, he announced that, to increase this usefulness in the future, "ICT will be used to increasingly personalize this information and simplify it."
A previous step is the sending of informative SMS that, since November 11, the Treasury has been sending to the self-employed and workers who have provided their telephone number to the organization. In this, they are informed that they can download their Work Life Report and Contribution Bases through the Social Security electronic headquarters. Those who are registered in the 'cl@ve' system or have an electronic certificate may also do so.
