The average number of people registered with Social Security reached 18,345,414 in May, which represents an increase of 223,192 people compared to the previous month, or 1.23 percent. This is the highest monthly increase since July 2005.
In the year-to-date, from January to May 2017, the number of new members was 683,575, which is 3.87 percent more than the first five months of 2016, a year that was not comparable due to the effects of the regularization of foreigners.
In the General System, the rate of Social Security affiliates registered an increase of 207,571 people (1.40 percent more). In total, the number of employed people is 15,048,625. In May, affiliation grew in all economic sectors:
Hospitality: 65,409 (+5.26 1Q3T)
Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services: 24,349 (+2.01 %)
Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles: 15,793 (+0.68 %)
Manufacturing Industry: 14,464 (+0.83 1Q3T)
Construction: 14,327 (+1.94 %)
Transport and Storage: 10,790 (+1.65 %)
As for the Special Agricultural System, the data for May show 29,087 more members (+3.67 %) with a total of 820,811 average members. The Special System for Household Employees fell by 254 members (-0.06 %), with a total of 429,092 employees.
In the Self-Employed Regime, the increase in May is 15,079 more employees (+0.47 %) and a total of 3,229,086.
In addition, there were 524 more new affiliations in the Special Sea Regime (+0.81 %), with a total of 65,040 employees. In the Coal Regime there were 18 more employees (+0.70 %), with a total of 2,664.
The number of people affiliated to Social Security increased in all the autonomous communities, and specifically in Murcia, the average affiliation to Social Security in the Region of Murcia in May was 570,701 people, which represents in absolute terms an increase of 12,307 people compared to the previous month (+2.20 %)
