In previous years, this contribution base was modified in the same way as the Interprofessional Minimum Wage. The self-employed are requesting an urgent meeting with the Ministry of Employment to discuss the matter.

In recent years, the Minimum Contribution Base for self-employed workers (which most of them pay contributions on) has been modified to the same extent as the Interprofessional Minimum Wage. This occurred, for example, in 2015, when the Government approved an increase in the minimum contribution to be paid by a self-employed person with a 1%.

With the announcement of the increase in the Interprofessional Minimum Wage by 8%, the Associations that represent the self-employed have set to work, and have requested an urgent meeting with the Ministry of Employment, with the intention of limiting, as far as possible, an increase of 8% in what each self-employed person pays monthly. According to the Federation of Self-Employed Workers Associations (ATA) in a statement, "ATA will not accept an increase in the minimum bases greater than 3%, equal to the increase in the maximum base, very far from the proposal to increase them by 8% made by the Government."

This meeting will take place pursuant to the provisions of the sixteenth additional provision of Royal Decree 8/2015 on consultation with self-employed organisations on this matter.

The Minimum Wage, a problem for the self-employed
With this meeting, the Associations of Self-Employed Workers aim to limit the impact that would be just one more of the negative consequences that this fact is having on self-employed workers.
According to the ATA itself, the minimum contribution base for corporate self-employed workers and those with more than ten employees will increase by the aforementioned 8%, so that the annual costs of their contributions will increase by around 300 euros.
On the other hand, this increase has a direct impact on the salary costs to be borne by each employee. The increase is understood by the group, however they would have preferred a greater provision, to adapt to the increase of 1,000 euros per year per employee that they will have to face in 2017.
