The Government wants it to be a "dissuasive" to avoid dismissal

A dismissed 58-year-old will not earn the same as a 30-year-old

The Ministry of Labor wants to give a Copernican change to the concept of compensation for fair dismissal. Thus, the second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, revealed yesterday after her appearance in Congress that her team is working on modifying compensation. UGT has asked to reopen the negotiation with the social agents to raise the unfair compensation from the current 33 to 45 days per year worked.

Díaz explained that the idea is to link the compensation to the circumstances of each worker who has been laid off and not focus it on a monolithic figure based on a series of days (33 or 45) per year worked. As an example, the minister said that a 58-year-old worker with difficulties to re-enter the labor market should not be compensated in the same way.

The vice-president clarified that a strong debate is taking place within the European Union on the advisability of modulating the compensation according to the personal circumstances of the worker who is left without a job.
