The Government finally reaches an agreement with the unions and, despite the rejection of the employers, the SMI will be at 965 euros in the last months of 2021
The Government has finally reached an agreement with the unions to raise the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI) this year by 15 euros per month. It will thus stand at 965 euros divided into 14 payments.
The Ministry of Labor had intensified informal contacts in recent days to try to gain the support of worker organizations after the employers' rejection of an increase for this year. Even at this time, negotiations continue and they are also trying to set increases for the next two years, something that was a demand from the unions.
Both UGT and CC OO had been very belligerent in these last two weeks, demanding an increase of between 25 and 30 euros for this year. However, the Government's proposal had been to increase it by 15 euros, although they had shown themselves willing to manage a range that ranged between 12 and 19 euros, which is the range that the committee of experts had recommended.
In recent days, the unions had expressed their willingness to lower their request for this year, as long as the lowest salary was 1,000 euros in January, rising in 2023 to 60% of the average salary, which they place at 1,060 euros. .
It remains to be seen whether the Executive finally agrees to set the path until the end of the legislature, as well as whether the entry into force of the new SMI will be in September or from October onwards.
